North of Cancun, the island was first discovered by the Spanish in the 1500's. It has numerous Mayan ruins, many badly eroded. It is also a sanctuary for sea turtles.
Jebel Akhdar, meaning “Green Mountain,” is a highland area within Oman's Al Hajar Mountains in Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate. The mountain rises to about 2,980 meters, with the Saiq Plateau located around 2,000 meters above sea level. Its cooler mountain climate supports terraced orchards, villages, and vegetation that differs from the dry lowlands below.
Aigues-Mortes is a fortified medieval town in the Camargue gardoise of southern France, surrounded by salt marshes, lagoons, and flat coastal plains. Its remarkably preserved stone walls enclose a compact historic centre of narrow streets, small squares, cafés, and historic buildings. The town's name means “dead waters,” reflecting the marshy landscape around it.
