The Isle of Skye rises from Scotland’s west coast with a shape that feels almost sculpted by hand. Its ridges and peninsulas stretch outward from a mountainous core, where the Cuillin range cuts a jagged line across the sky. Travelers often begin in Portree, a harbor town lined with brightly painted buildings and small seafood spots. From here, narrow roads lead to cliff edges, quiet bays, and sweeping views where golden eagles and red deer are part of the everyday scene.

Bar Harbor should be any traveler's Maine priority! Drink in a view of the Atlantic Ocean from the town pier, and be sure to get some lobster at one of the excellent local restaurants. Bar Harbor, a Mount Desert Island town, is also the portal to the rugged, recreational paradise Acadia National Park, where birding, whale-watching and kayaking is the order of the day. The park's Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on America's East Coast.

Morelia, the capital of Michoacán, is a city that wears its history in stone. Built in the 16th century and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its historic center is filled with over 200 colonial-era buildings made from pink cantera, a soft volcanic stone that gives the city its distinct look. The centerpiece is the Morelia Cathedral, a massive baroque structure that features twin towers that light up every Saturday night with a fireworks and music display.

Whitehorse is the territorial capital of this Canadian site of the 1898 gold rush. It consists mostly of rural towns, where the main industries are mining and tourism. It is a land of forests, rivers and tall mountain ranges covering a total of 207,075 sq. miles.

While an earthquake in 1972 left few buildings intact in downtown Managua, new areas are building up. Managua has excellent restaurants, nice hotels, and is a good base for day tours into the countryside.
