Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park lies west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, extending for about 161 kilometres along the rugged West MacDonnell Ranges. The park is known for red quartzite ridges, steep-sided gorges, dry riverbeds, and permanent waterholes that provide important refuges for plants and animals. The Black Hills Mining Museum offers displays of mining tools, machinery and a simulated underground mine experience that brings to life how miners worked the Black Hills over generations. Along the same street, galleries, cafés and historic buildings make for pleasant stops between deeper dives into the past.
