Lake District National Park, in northwest England’s Cumbria, is a landscape of lakes, fells, and valleys that has inspired poets, painters, and travelers for centuries. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the region is famed for its literary connections.

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park lies in northeastern Botswana and forms part of one of the largest salt flat systems in the world. The landscape is defined by wide open pans, sandy tracks, grasslands, and scattered baobab trees that rise from the dry terrain.

Trabzon was founded in the 7th century B.C. by Milletain colonists. On entering the city, on a green hill descending to the sea, is a well-preserved 13th century Byzantine church, now the Avasofya Museum. The walls of this church are decorated with frescoes, some of the finest examples of Byzantine craftmanship. The higher part of the city, the old quarter, inside the still extant fortifications with its timber houses, should be visited.

Sinaloa, in Northwest Mexico, comprises 18 municipalities, and Culiacán Rosales serves as its capital. It is located opposite Baja California Sur, across the Gulf of California.

The 300 square mile Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve is reached by taking the Georgeville turnoff at mile 65 of the Western Highway. After going through miles of tropical jungle you will be in a forest of tall pines growing amongst wildflowers and grasses. The area has whitewater rivers, waterfalls and cave systems.
