Gokyo is a small settlement high in Nepal’s Khumbu region, set beside a chain of turquoise glacial lakes beneath the Himalaya. Its significance is closely tied to trans-Himalayan trade routes and to Sherpa culture, which has adapted over generations to life at extreme altitude.

The town of Eldoret is located in western Kenya, eastern Africa, on the Uasin Gishu Plateau west of the Great Rift Valley. Situated at an elevation of 6,857 feet (2,090 m) above sea level, its healthful climate attracted many European settlers during the colonial period. It serves an agricultural area; chief crops are corn (maize), wheat, and pyrethum.

Nuremberg is Bavaria’s second-largest city and for centuries was the undeclared capital of the Holy Roman Empire. There is plenty to do and see, starting with picturesque charm of the Old Town, situated at the foot of the Kaiserburg.

Located in northern Washington State, near the Canadian Border, Bellingham is the southern port for the Alaska Marine Highway System. Area attractions inlcude the San Juan Islands, winter skiing and the popular resort of Semi-Ah-Moo.

Hustai National Park is a protected grassland reserve in central Mongolia, located west of Ulaanbaatar in an area of rolling степpe, forested hills, and river valleys. The park is best known for the reintroduction of the Przewalski’s horse, known locally as takhi, a wild horse species that had disappeared from Mongolia before conservation programs returned it to the region.
