Rathlin Island is Northern Ireland’s only inhabited offshore island, lying about six miles from the County Antrim coast across the Sea of Moyle. Its small community is centered around a harbor on the southern side, while much of the island consists of farmland, open hills, rocky shorelines, and sea cliffs. Rathlin has a notably remote character despite its short ferry journey from Ballycastle.
Transylvania is a historical region in central Romania, bordered by the Carpathian Mountains. It is known for its forested landscapes, medieval towns, and a mix of cultural influences shaped by Romanian, Hungarian, and Saxon communities. Cities such as Cluj-Napoca and Brașov serve as regional centers with preserved old quarters and growing modern districts. The region is often associated with folklore, but its identity is grounded in everyday rural life and long-standing settlement patterns.
Lake Toba is another of the island's spectacular sights - a remarkable volcanic crater set in the middle of northern Sumatra, 176km from Medan. The lake is huge (the largest in South-East Asia), occupying the caldera of a giant volcano that collapsed on itself after a massive eruption some 100,000 years ago.
High on a hill, dominating the sea, Loreto is a small city that lives solely for the "Santa Casa", one of the most famous and revered monuments of Christianity. According to tradition, it was the Virgin Mary's birth house, which up until that time was kept intact and venerated in Palestine, then flown by angels from Nazareth to the Adriatic Coast and set on a green hill of laurels on the night of December 10, 1294; hence the name Loreto.
The capital of eastern Morocco, Oujda stands on the border with Algeria. Its privileged geographic position makes it a center for Maghreb tourism and a meeting point of routes between Morocco and other North African countries. Many streams run from the northern slopes to irrigate the well-kept gardens and orchards. Crossing these imposing mountains affords a magnificent panoramic view of Oujda.
