North of Sligachan the road first rises and then dips down into Portree - the main town on Skye. With its natural harbor and open perspective, Portree is a pleasant village and offers visitors a fine range of local services, accommodation and things to do.

Bandelier National Monument lies in northern New Mexico near Los Alamos, protecting a rugged landscape of canyons, volcanic cliffs, mesas, and forested slopes. The monument is especially known for its ancestral Pueblo dwellings carved into soft volcanic tuff, including rooms, cavates, and ceremonial structures that remain visible along the canyon walls. Frijoles Canyon forms the main visitor area, with trails leading through archaeological sites and wooded terrain.

Virginia Beach is a coastal city in southeastern Virginia where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Chesapeake Bay and a network of rivers, marshes, and inland waterways. Its long oceanfront includes sandy beaches, dunes, and a busy boardwalk, while the southern part of the city contains broad wetlands, forests, and agricultural land. The city is geographically large and includes several distinct communities beyond the resort district.

Located about twenty-five miles southwest of Rapid City, South Dakota, lies Mount Rushmore. Following Highway 244 from the west leads to the orientation center. There exhibits tell how sculptor Gutzon Borglum carved away twice the rock needed to construct Egypt's Great Sphinx (which isn't even as tall as Washington's nose).

Gosier, the largest tourist area, has the works - casino, resort hotels, scalloped sandy coves and an original village center which has managed to retain its local character.
