Lifou Island, the most populous of the Loyalty Islands in New Caledonia, is a flat, former coral atoll with abundant vegetation and surrounded by secluded coral reefs which many say offer some of the best snorkeling in the world.

Cherbourg is best known for its maritime museum, Cite de la Mer, which includes tours inside Le Redoutable, a nonfunctional nuclear submarine, and exhibits on the Titanic and European emigration to the Americas.

Addis Ababa is the capital of Ethiopia and a highland city set at the foot of the Entoto Mountains. Its elevated setting gives the city a relatively cool climate compared with much of the country, while broad avenues, busy neighborhoods, green hills, and expanding modern districts create a varied urban landscape.
