Alter do Chão is a riverside village in the Brazilian state of Pará, on the banks of the clear Tapajós River. Though part of the larger municipality of Santarém, Alter do Chão has its own rhythm and identity, known far beyond Brazil for the white-sand beaches that appear when river levels drop between July and December. One of the most famous spots is Ilha do Amor (Love Island), a sandbar just off the village shore that feels almost like a hidden world of warm water and bright sky.

There is a whole host of wildlife on Moreton Island which you can see on the numerous beaches, and along the walking and 4WD trails. Many wading birds can be found on the island, in particular between September and April when many birds migrate from other countries. You may also be lucky enough to see Green and Loggerhead Turtles which often nest between November - February.

Lake Titicaca, perched at over 3,800 meters above sea level, is the highest navigable lake in the world and a place where ancient stories still echo across the water. Shared by Bolivia and Peru, this lake has long been considered sacred by the Andean peoples. According to Inca legend, it was from Titicaca’s deep blue waters that the first humans were created.
