Sandwich, Massachusetts, occupies the Upper Cape near the eastern end of the Cape Cod Canal and is recognized as the oldest town on Cape Cod. Cabourg is a seaside resort on the Côte Fleurie in Normandy, set where the River Dives reaches the English Channel. The central Grand Hôtel stands beside the beach and casino, forming one of Cabourg's most recognisable landmarks.

Sevan is a town in Armenia's Gegharkunik Province, located beside Lake Sevan, one of the largest high-altitude freshwater lakes in the Caucasus. The town sits at more than 1,900 meters above sea level, with the lake extending across a broad basin surrounded by mountains. Sevan's landscape combines open water, grassy hills, rocky shores, and cultivated areas, while the cool climate distinguishes it from Armenia's lower valleys.

Farther from a continental landfall than any other group of islands on earth, the twelve Marquesas jut out of the open Pacific just south of the equator, shrouded in a constant cloud cover.
