Algiers
Algiers is the capital and largest city of Algeria, occupying a series of hills along the western side of a broad Mediterranean bay. Its landscape combines a historic hillside core, modern districts, busy avenues, and a large waterfront. The white facades of the city rise above the sea, giving Algiers its familiar nickname, “Algiers the White.”
Mangochi
Mangochi is a town in southern Malawi positioned near the point where Lake Malawi narrows into the Shire River. Its location has made it an important centre for trade, fishing, transport, and commerce in the southern lakeshore region. The town has a busy market and provides a useful base for exploring the surrounding lakeshore, river landscapes, and nearby wildlife areas.
Burkina Faso
Who would have thought, back in the tumultuous coup and counter coup days of the 1970s, that Burkina Faso would become the cultural darling of West Africa? Unlikely as it seems, Burkina Faso has become the Utah of West Africa, hosting a biennial film festival that rivals the Sundance Film Festival for cultural clout. When it's not hosting film festivals, it's busy organizing its other biennial cultural festival.
Lukla
Lukla, a mountain town perched at 2,860 meters in eastern Nepal, is best known as the gateway to the Everest region. The town is home to Tenzing-Hillary Airport, one of the world’s most thrilling landing strips, named after the legendary climbers who first reached Everest’s summit in 1953. The short, sloped runway hugs the mountain, offering a once-in-a-lifetime arrival that travelers remember long after their journey ends.
Great Exuma
The Exumas are located in the middle of The Bahamas, yet remain mostly undisturbed. A collection of some 365 cays and islands stretching over 120 miles, The Exumas are supported at the far southern tip of the chain by two main islands, Great Exuma and Little Exuma.
