It was founded on a former auxiliary Pisan port between the late 16th and early 17th centuries on the orders of the Grand Duke Cosimo I, who made it Tuscany's main outlet to the sea.

St Kilda is a remote volcanic archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, far west of Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. The group consists of Hirta, Dun, Soay, and Boreray, along with numerous sea stacks and smaller formations. Hirta is the largest island and contains the remains of the former settlement around Village Bay. No permanent civilian population lives on St Kilda today, although conservation workers, researchers, and Ministry of Defence personnel occupy Hirta at various times.

Crazy Horse Memorial stands in the Black Hills of South Dakota, between Custer and Hill City, where a massive mountain carving is being created to honor the Lakota leader Crazy Horse and the cultures of Native American peoples.
