Erg Chigaga is a remote field of large sand dunes in southeastern Morocco, extending across the Sahara near M'Hamid El Ghizlane in the Drâa Valley. It is one of the country’s largest dune areas, with sand ridges spread across a broad desert landscape far from major settlements. Some dunes rise to around 60 metres, while the surrounding terrain alternates between sand, gravel plains, and dry desert vegetation.

Franconia is a small town in northern New Hampshire set within the White Mountains, with a landscape shaped by steep forested slopes, mountain valleys, and the Pemigewasset River. The town is closely associated with Franconia Notch, a dramatic mountain pass that separates the Kinsman and Franconia ranges. Its location places it near several of the region’s best-known natural landmarks while retaining a distinct village identity.

Pingyao, a city steeped in ancient charm, offers a remarkable glimpse into China’s rich history. This well-preserved city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is renowned for its classical ancient architecture, which remains largely intact since the Ming and Qing dynasties. Wander through the Pingyao Ancient City Wall, a formidable structure that encircles the city and provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

McMurdo is distinctive not only for its scientific role but also for the unusual scale of daily life in Antarctica. The station has a power plant, medical facilities, dining services, workshops, communications systems, and specialized vehicles used to support research in extreme conditions. Nearby Scott Base, operated by New Zealand, provides another important Antarctic research presence on Ross Island. McMurdo also supports flights and overland journeys to remote parts of the continent.

Cape Coral is a large coastal city in Southwest Florida, occupying a peninsula between the Caloosahatchee River and Matlacha Pass. Its most distinctive feature is an extensive network of more than 400 miles of canals, many connecting with the Caloosahatchee River and Gulf waters. The city was developed as a planned waterfront community, with broad streets, residential neighborhoods, parks, and numerous properties along canals.
