ABERDEEN -- Scotland's third-largest city (pop. 187,000) is characterized by buildings of beautiful white granite. Set beside the North Sea, Aberdeen is both a university town and the capital of the Scottish oil boom. It is also one of Scotland's largest seaside resorts (though its appeal is confined to those who like their water well-chilled).

Baja California Sur is state located in Northwestern Mexico, on the Baja California peninsula. The capital is La Paz. The area is lightly populated. Tourism is the economic mainstay of this region, centered around the beach resort area, Los Cabos. Sport fishing is a major attraction, as well as having some of the best beaches Baja has to offer.

Davos, located in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, is the highest town in Europe at 1,560 meters above sea level and known for its alpine sports and outdoor activities. In winter, it offers over 300 kilometers of ski slopes shared with neighboring Klosters, along with cross-country trails and Europe’s largest natural ice rink. In summer, the same mountains transform into hiking and mountain biking routes, including the panoramic Jakobshorn and Parsenn areas.

Koloa sits on Kauai’s south shore and holds a special place in Hawaiian history as the site of the islands’ first successful sugar plantation.

Uyuni, in southwestern Bolivia, is best known as the gateway to the world’s largest salt flat, Salar de Uyuni. Once a humble railway town, Uyuni has grown into a base for travelers drawn to this surreal landscape, where an ancient dried-up lake has left behind a vast expanse of glistening salt crust.
