The area is part of the Adirondack Park, a vast protected landscape of forests, lakes, rivers, and mountains.

The castle, built to protect the approach to Jerusalem, stands on a craggy plateau 4,300ft above sea level. It was built in the early part of the 12th century and held for 50 years by the Crusaders until they were defeated by Salah al Din (Saladin) in 1189.

Blaye is a small town on the Gironde estuary in southwestern France, north of Bordeaux, known for its riverside setting, historic citadel, and connection with the vineyards of northern Gironde. The town rises gently from the estuary, with the fortified Citadel of Blaye occupying a prominent position above the water. Its old streets contain stone houses, cafés, and shops, while the waterfront provides views across the broad estuary toward the Médoc peninsula.
