Rockhampton
From Rockhampton you can discover the richness and diversity of this region. To the east the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean lap the Capricorn Coast which is grandly decorated with stretches of sandy beaches, the Great Barrier Reef and semi-tropical islands.
Taita Hills
Taita Hills rise above the dry plains of southeastern Kenya in Taita-Taveta County, forming a mountainous landscape between the Tsavo plains and the coastal region. The hills are part of the northern Eastern Arc Mountains and include steep slopes, cultivated valleys, and remaining patches of indigenous forest. Their cooler and wetter conditions contrast with the surrounding semi-arid lowlands, creating a range of habitats within a relatively small area.
Canterbury
Canterbury is a large region on New Zealand’s South Island, stretching from the Pacific coast across the broad Canterbury Plains to the Southern Alps. Its landscape changes from farmland and vineyards to high mountains, glacial lakes, braided rivers, and rugged coastline. Christchurch, the region’s main city, provides a cultural and urban centre with the Botanic Gardens, Avon River, museums, galleries, and distinctive post-earthquake architecture.
Altun Ha
Altun Ha, where archaeologists found a nine-pound jade carving among these ruins, the largest ever uncovered in a Mayan civilation.
Gaeta
A fishing port and seaside resort in a picturesque location. The old town is dominated by a castle (7th century). The cathedral (1279) is notable for its admirable sculptures and paintings as well as its Arab-Norman bell tower. The mausoleum of Lucius Munatius Plancus, an impressive Roman monument, is cylindrical in shape and 13 meters high. The sanctuary of Montagna Spaccata is at Punta della Trinità, where you can see a chasm which is traditionally said to have opened up on the death of Jesus.
